So, yeah..I requested a single on West, and I ended up with Schuyler House. Frankly, from what I've heard, it's one of the worst living arrangements on campus. I'm happy I got a single and if any of the other transfers I knew had been placed out there, I could make it work but..they aren't. So far the good 20-25 transfers I've met/talk to all got on west campus or in themed housing.

Any insight on this building? I'm currently looking into a few options:

-Emailed Sandy Davenport asking if she could see if ANY single rooms on west are open, both main buildings and gothics. (I don't know why he said gothics in particular..seeing as I'm sure at least one double in a main building is open somewhere or will be open when everyone jumbles their housing next week.)

-The housing office said while singles are probably a long shot and they don't have any open right away, they can probably re-put me back in the system and assign me into a double in a gothic.

-I've been talking to a guy on here who has an apartment (and will probably see this thread at some point) right across from Alice Cook. He's studying abroad and is subletting his room...nice price, nice looking place, it's where I want it to be, but as a community college student coming to Cornell, I kind of wanted the actual dorm experience (even if it's not all it's cracked up to be) for my first semester or two before all my friends want to go get apartments. The other 3 guys in the apartment are also a bit older than me, since I'm a sophomore transfer. I'm sure they're great guys, but I'm still unnerved at the idea, lol.

-I could also just stay in Schuyler. It's really far away and I might not be with many spring transfers, but it is a nice looking place.

I could use some advice on this, what's the best bet to go with?

P.S. I can't be the only one thinking how ridiculous it is to be placed so far away as a new student, haha. I can't wait to join the Transfer Assembly and bring this issue up.

i went and saw the apartment if you have any questions… and i met 2 of the roommates so let me know if theres anything you want to know. good luck getting a new room, i hope it works out

not very good. everyone requests singles, so be very grateful if you get one.

And thanks for the positivity, somni. XD But yeah i know, it sucks. It’s in freakin’ downtown Ithaca, basically. I’m thinking of just moving to a double if they have one…

Most people I know who requested singles got them…but I suppose they’re in the minority. I still think that the housing options at Cornell are much better than most other places…everyone is always shocked to hear about how many singles are available for incoming freshmen.

Most freshmen who request singles get them as far as I know, however this is only based on anecdotal evidence. Its probably different for transfers since your housing situation is entirely based on where is open.

I’m a transfer student currently in a single on the fourth floor of Schuyler. The distance is kind of annoying but you get used to it. Luckily there is a TCAT bus stop right next to Schuyler and all first year students (transfers included) get free bus service. I have considered putting in a request for west campus, but have not for two reasons. I have made several good friends in Schuyler and, at least on the fourth floor, there is no noise. It is perfect for studying, and I’m afraid if I moved to west campus I would get placed in a more noisy area.
