I am looking for people to provide reviews/comments on anything related to NJ’s Kean University BFA Theatre Performance program (classes, faculty, auditions, etc). I have not seen much written about it on this website. I do know the school is very affordable and is relatively easy to get into (in a general sense - not sure about the BFA Theatre Performance acceptance rate). We are visiting the school, but I would love to hear from students, parents, alumni, etc. I thank you in advance for responding.
My son was accepted into the University and then invited to audition to enter the BFA program. He never auditioned because he was accepted into his first choice school and attends it currently. He liked a lot of things about Kean, its proximity to NYC, the campus and the professors. Most professors were teaching during the day at Kean and had some involvement in NYC theater by night, as actors, producers, stage management etc. My son had been to the campus previously and liked it because he competed yearly in the NJ Thespian festival that Kean hosted. When he notified the theater department by email that he wouldn’t be auditioning, he received an email and a personal phone call wishing him luck in the future. He was also told at that time the University was in the progress of updating the schools theaters. The tuition was great but he preferred his first choice BA school which was a little further from home. He has a friend at Kean who is a non-theater major that loves the school. Good luck to your son.
