Hoping someone on CC has had some experience with Montclair's BFA acting program. One of my students just told me she was accepted. She did a walk-in at the Unifieds last weekend. Because I am West Coast I honestly don't know much about the program. I did a search and didn't find much. Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated! Thanks :)

Montclair is one of the BFA programs to which my son applied and was accepted, though he is attending a program at another university now.

MSU has a very solid program, with an increasing reputation nationally. When my son auditioned at Purchase in 2009, a freshmen who was accepted there off the waiting list told us he wished he has known about Montclair when he was an applicant.

Montclair is not a very selective school academically, and there are a fair number of general education requirements, even for BFA students…something that might or might not be appealing, depending on the student.

To some extent, Montclair is a commuter school. But there are many students there from Southern NJ, and they generally do not go home on weekends. The theatre kids stick around, of course.

We live in South Jersey and my son knows many kids in the auditioned BA program at Montclair who adore the school. He knows one freshman in BFA Acting; he might be able to put someone in touch with this student if the school were being seriously considered.

One nice thing about the school is that it is very close to NYC.
