I play guitar in a band right now (still in HS) and will be a freshman at Penn State UP next year.

Obviously i'm going to want to keep my chops up as well as write music, so is it acceptable to bring an electric guitar and a small practice amp to keep in my dorm so long as its relatively quiet and I use headphones need be? Would bringing an acoustic guitar in addition also be okay?

If you bring headphones, then go for it. You roommate shouldn’t mind. They’ll have to deal with it if not.

^Not necessarily…many schools have rules in the housing license prohibiting amplified instruments of any kind.

See if you can find a current copy of the housing policy and read it…you should know that stuff anyway (they don’t tend to change much from year to year) and then you’ll know for sure.

The actual guitars themselves shouldn’t be a problem, but the amp is where it gets tricky.
