Kelley Direct Admit GPA Question

My Junior year of high school ends in 2 weeks. Right now, I have A’s in all of my 8 classes this semester except for Spanish and Computer Apps. I currently have a B- in Spanish and an A- in Computer Apps. In order to end 11th grade with a weighted GPA above 3.8/4, I will need to get my B- up to a B or my A- up to an A. If either my B- goes up to a B or my A- goes up to an A, my weighted GPA will be 3.805. If I get both grades up to a B and an A, my weighted GPA will be 3.813. However, if I end up with a B- and an A- in Spanish and Computer Apps respectively, my weighted GPA would be 3.797.

My high school rounds GPA to 3 decimal places, so my GPA would appear on my transcript as “3.797” instead of “3.8.” If my weighted GPA ends up being a 3.797, would I still qualify for direct admission into IU Kelley without having to petition? Would IU round a 3.797 to a 3.8?

Are you in Indiana? Do you have a qualifying SAT or ACT score? If so, talk to your Spanish teacher and explain the situation. Also talk to your guidance counselor. Perhaps they will work out some extra credit or something. All Indiana high schools understand the Kelley direct admit guidelines. Otherwise, you will have to petition unfortunately.

If you’re only a fraction away, you’ll most likely get in via petition.

I would call the IU admissions office and ask. I honestly have no idea how they round GPAs. If it turns out that they don’t round up and you end up under a 3.8, you might ask your counselor if there is a really easy class you could take online over the summer that would raise your GPA. But if your SAT/ACT score meets or exceeds the requirement, I would guess you’d get in if you submit a petition.
