What finance electives should I take for corporate finance? Bulletin recommends F307, F402 and F408. I don’t see F408 on the class schedule or in grade distribution…is F 408 still taught?
F408 hasn’t been taught for at least four years.
Are you an accounting/finance double-major? G345 is a good substitute for F408 for accounting majors as it covers some topics on the BEC section of the CPA exam.

Hey…thanks for your reply. I’m pursuing a finance major only so need to take 4 finance courses (with at least 2 at 400 level). So I’m thinking about 307 working capital, G345 that you mentioned and F402 corp financial strategy/governance an F420 fixed equity. Its strange that the new bulletin still says that F307, F402 and F408 are recommended for students like myself who are interested in corporate finance but F408 is not even offered. So I was looking for a 400 level subsitute for F408. What do you think about F420? Niether F402 or F420 have professors listed for the fall classes yet, they both say staff. What’s the reason for that? Will they be new profs or do they draw out of the hat? Have you heard any feed back on profs for these classes? I don’t mind working hard, however, I learn best from a prof who does a good job of explanation and provides lots of examples with solutions versus having to teach myself or learn through Pearson labs.
My other option is to take A311 & A312 (instead of A310) and only take one 400 level finance class. I’m concerned if I choose this option and after taking A311 I decide that I don’t want to tackle A312 I’m stuck…and would have to go back and take A310 anyway. Did I read the bulletin correctly that A311 does not subsitute for A310? Any thoughts on this option for a non accounting major? Can I survive A312?
Thanks again for replying, I look forward to your response.
I’ve taken A311 and I can tell you it’s a very time consuming and difficult course. The exams are filled with curve balls and the book is 1500 pages. Students are usually curved 1 to 2 letter grades (e.g. C to C+ or C to B -). Haven’t taken A312 but I heard it’s slightly more difficult than A311
I assumed you were taking F307 with Prof Masson, since you are focusing on corporate finance; this is also a relatively easy grading class for an upper-level Kelley class. A couple of years ago, the final exam was optional in Masson’s F307 classes.
I don’t know anything about F420. I would not county on F408 being taught anytime soon.
Agree with nico52 that A311 and A312 are very difficult, time-consuming classes. Probably easier to take A310 and the two 400-level classes. A311 probably doesn’t substitute for A310 because A310 is a water-down version of the content covered in both A311 and A312.
Hey. thanks for the feedback on A311 and A312, think I will stick with A310. The fall profs for F307 are Masson and Binder. It look’s like Masson’s class set up each week is one session in a lecture hall and one on-line session. Have you heard positive or negative comments about this teaching style in that class? I have never had a full semester with that format. My past experience with a web class is when a prof is travelling for a couple of weeks and it hasn’t been the best learning format. However, that could have been because of inadequate preparation.
Feedback on Masson and lecture/web vs Binder would be appreciated? Has this been Masson’s teaching method for some time?
Again thanks for your replies…
