Kelley Management Consulting Workshop?

Hello,
I'm a kelley da and doing some exploring of kelley majors since I am largely undecided. I was wondering if anyone knew how selective the Kelley Management Consulting Workshop is? I'm in the Hutton Honors College which I noticed was an option on the application, will that or being in business honors help?
Does anyone have a general GPA requirement for the workshop? There were no admissions guidelines listed.
Thanks

The GPA’s for that workshop ate ridiculously high. I think the average GPA is a 3.9+, but I’m not positive.

woww… that’s what i was kinda picking up on from the info page. you apply mid-sophomore year, so hopefully my gpa from freshman year and 1st semester sophomore year is high… ugh. although i think maintaining a 3.7 will be hard, pulling off above that would be ridiculous. ha

I’m starting to become more interested in the consulting workshop. I’ve checked the website for it and it hasn’t been updated since last year.

Can anyone provide more info on this?

Hi guys,

I’m a current member of the workshop. I’ll be a junior next year, and was accepted last Spring.

You apply for the program in February of your sophomore year. Last year around 90 people applied and 30 were accepted. I was told the average GPA of those accepted was a 3.9, but a GPA this high isn’t absolutely necessary. I would estimate, however, you need at least a 3.7 to be looked at.

More important than GPA are your extracurriculars and involvement. The program is very selective, and Rubin looks for people who have already proven themselves to an extent. I haven’t met my entire class yet, but I know people who have founded their own businesses or clubs, are active in sororities/fraternities, and launched new initiatives within clubs. Another great way to stand out are through performing well in the case competitions that Kelley holds throughout the year.

Overall, you need to distinguish by taking initiative. Just holding a leadership position won’t cut it - you need to contribute something memorable. I have several friends who are highly qualified (3.9+ GPA, UTA, in leadership positions), yet didn’t even get an interview just because they didn’t stand out enough.

I’m assuming you are an incoming freshman, which is great, because there are many doors open to freshman who want to get involved. Attend the Student Involvement Fair in September, and look for groups that fit your interests (there are literally hundreds of organizations in attendance). Also - free food opportunity ;). We really love seeing you out there, and want to help you get involved. I do know some clubs offer leadership positions to freshman, so ask about this when you go. But please, don’t join a club just for resume building. Do something you enjoy.

If you have any more questions about the workshop, getting involved, or about IU in general, I’ll try to check back here, so feel free to post your questions.

Rubi teaches that workshop?! I love RUBIIII, YOU ARE KELLEYS!! Haha saw him randomly at a subway during the end of the spring semester.

I think he meant Joel Rubin…completely different personality haha

LaRok0,

the Kelley Managemente Consutling Workshop is extremely selective. It is probably the most selective organization inside the Kelley School in terms of the academic pre-req’s. The management workshop is fairly new compared to the IBW but it still has placed extremely well.

If you are seriously interestedin the management workshop. I would contact the program director about your interest and what you can do to better position yourself in gaining acceptence into the consulting workshop come your sophomore year.
