I’m at Kelley at the moment and my GPA is a 3.7. I’m only a freshmen, so I guess you can call me a pre-business. Can anyone one on this thread tell me how placement is into banks (IBD). Is Kelley a target? If it isn’t I just might have to transfer to Stern or Georgetown…or even WORSE, Notre Dame…
Since you are already at IU, why don’t you go to the Career Office and find out?
Kelley has been gaining momentum over the last few years in IB. Getting into the workshop can help you out a ton but be warned that it is extremely competitive now. Kids with 3.8+ GPAs have been turned away and the “first in line” students are the ones that already have banking experience or connections. I’ve also heard that the alumni network response rate is much higher if you’re in the workshop than if you’re not…so keep that in mind. The schools you named above seem like great alternatives to Kelley. Look into UMich too.
It’s definitely still possible to get into banking without the workshop, and students do it every year, you just wont have as many connections.
Just my 2 cents.
IBW has announced its new members for class 2017. In total, a record number of 64 students out of 112 interviewees have been admitted into the program which combines IBW and IBS. I had been somewhat skeptical about the selection process over the years. I was under the impression that you would have to have the ability of making the interviewers like you similar to the Fraternity rushing. But, I think that I was wrong. I am not sure how the process worked in previous years. This year, the candidates went through three interviews with two interviewers in each. If the candidate is solid, he/she got admitted in the 1st round. The remainders went thought the 2nd round of interview to fill the seats. Most interviewers were Juniors while the selection committee consisting of mainly Seniors made the final decision. I am sure that there were qualified students who were left out. But, the admission process is fair to the degree that even if you had stolen your interviewer’s girl friend, you would still have a decent chance to vindicate yourself. Professor Haeberle and his IBW members are to be congratulated for coming up with an almost perfect process. I am sure that if you are competitive and prepare wisely, you will have a great chance to be admitted into IBW.
I am not sure how many Kelley non-IBW/IBS students (w/o family connections) got formal IB job offer before graduation. Students in Stern and Georgetown would have better chance if they are competitive. Mendoza does not accept transfer students and IB track is only for those with competitive GPA which is definitely not easy.
