Hi, long time viewer of these forums, I decided to post today.

I am thinking of my MBA options right now and Kellogg seems great, but it's never glamourized like HBS or Wharton, is it as good as them? It's always top 5 in rankings but no one ever says "I want to go to Kellogg!" they say HBS. Is it respected by employers and others? I know it's hard to get into.

I have a feeling it's just because it's not in the NY/MA/Penn area. If it was near the Ivy leagues it would be like an MIT almost, not Ivy but amazing.?

I always thought Kellog was a highly respected B-school? Not sure “glamorized” is what I’d want from a B-school. Find out who recruits there these days that might help you.

What Everyone is missing is that schools get branded for what they’re good at. This determines the amount of chatter about the school. Chicago schools [U of Chicago, Illinois Institute of Technology and Northwestern] were identified as good quantitative schools - the best at different points in time. This is why many top notch Engineers and Economists have come out of this region. It is also why these schools have international recognition that is probably a bit better than in the U.S. And while these were classic fields of study, the Whartons & Tucks have been the top dogs because they produce great finance students. In an effort to hire the people who could hit the ground running the fastest, Wall Street in the 80s and 90s hired the finance newbies. The move is trending back to a broader education base and as such these schools will enjoy a re-surgence.

kellog is great. What’s even greater is their combined and accelerated mba related programs. Although I’ve frequently come by comments saying that Kellog focuses more on the marketing side…or something like that in their MBA. ANyway top notch faculty and it’s by no means underrated. It isn’t like Penn and Penn isn’t like Harvard but it all boils down to what you want/which you route you’d like to go through. I personally think for accelerated and combined programs its the tops. And an MBA from Kellog IS respected. But I mean as a student you’d have to do your share of glamorising your resume. bTW IT’S NOT SO MUCH AMAZING AS IT IS “GREAT CONTACTS”…so at mba level do not have such a skewed perception of how mba elsewhere is going to be. It’s only ever name, alumni, prestige, curriculum, professors and then your gpa/resume etc.
