does anyone knows how hard is getting in kent school? and about the academics, sports and everything there? i was looking into their website and it interested me. but there's no acceptance rate in boardingschool.com, and now i'm looking more for 'safeties' that i like. i already have one (madeira), but would be good have another.

Its around 30-40% I think.

that’s good =D not sooo high as a top tier, but still selective.

When my son applied last year I believe the acceptanc rate was 37%.

Please visit personally instead of just looking at the website. We visited twice and had the interview, the conclusion is the same. We do no like the school. It’s not welcomed, not comfortable, the students felt blue, the interviewer is rude, facilities are outdated compare to our previous visits to NMH, Berkshire, ST. Mark’s, Suffield. We really don’t know why it has good reputation, have we missed something?

i really like the school, so i would go by whatever your own opinion turns out to be

I have just heard around that many rich new yorkers send their kids their, a.k.a kinda like gossip girl.
i even heard kent school has a gossip website where any student can post random rumors about anyone they choose anonymously. JUST WHAT I HAVE HEARD

The surrounding area supplies drugs to this school. I wish this was not the case as I`m a crew guy and live in NE. This school would be at the top of my list if they could get this problem under control. I know first hand students who had to leave the school and go to rehab. For this reason my parents wont even let me consider this school.
I wish Kent would crack down on the misfits like other BS have done from time to time.

Kent is a good school. I don’t know your background, so can’t comment on whether it is a safety type of school or not. However, I wouldn’t consider Madeira a safety for anyone, it is fairly selective, probably more so than Kent.

I got accepted at the school 2 years ago when I applied, decided to go somewhere else but it still seemed like a nice school. Big campus, decent class rooms, people there were generally nice.

i wouldnt call the academic part of the campus big

Kent has drug problems and so many bad things like that??? Is this true??? I’m so confused when reading this. Some people say the school bad, some say the school good…

minhtrang -

I’d guess that all schools will have some students who break the rules . . . and many more who do not!

Our educational consultant really likes many things about Kent and he thinks they are very strong in the arts. However, it was his personal opinion that they do have an ongoing problem with drugs on campus and he believed that the administration hasn’t done enough about it. So, he did not recommend Kent to us, despite its many strengths.

But, if you dont do drugs and have no desire to do them, it is easy to stay away from them and there are drug problems at every boarding school

I thought that Kent has a “one strike policy” for drugs. Someone told me that it’s one of the toughest at any boarding school.

In case you were wondering, Kent has a 1 strike policy for alcohol and drugs of any kind. This differs from at least 20 other well known schools (Taft, Hotchkiss, Loomis, NMH ect.) who are 2 strike policy schools. We do have an additional tobacco strike allowance(3 before dismissal or asked to leave to seek medical attention). I don’t believe any kid has been kicked out for three tobacco strikes alone, but the punishment is sever.

Let me bring forward a real life example of the effects and misconceptions of differing policies. China executes more people than the rest of the world for drug possession. Does this mean that China has a drug problem, more so than the USA for instance, because it has a more strict policy? No, it just means that more people are dealt with publicly. Just because Kent has more reported cases on a stricter policy doesn’t mean that drugs are more prevalent. It just means that drugs are a reason of immediate expulsion and you’ll hear about it a lot more than if there a two strike policy.

The school is rather lenient if a person seeks medical help and cleans up, but is very strict if they see any signs to worry about if they decide to re-enroll.

I agree with the previous comment. Kent has a one strike policy and nothing but. If you walk into a liquor store, you get kicked out. It is very simple… the reason Kent was known for drugs was because so many kids were busted for them. And the reason I say “was” is because drugs have faded away almost totally this year. Many prep schools (especially boarding schools) have drug problems; and the only reasons Kent are known is because of the very strict policy.

Kent is my safety (all the rest is HADES.) I really liked it when I visited, and I’m friends with a few people on campus.

wow this is an old thread.
