I keep reading about Kenyon looking for students who will fit in well with their school. Can you give me examples of who would be a good fit for Kenyon? Creative types? Intellectuals? Thanks
I don’t know if you are still looking for answers. I heard they are very good at sniffing out what they want. But I can tell you about my son. He was a NMF and had tons of APs, He didn’t have the greatest GPA but did a lot of interesting things…odyssey of the mind, ethics quiz bowl, fencing, drama and painted the school all summer one year. He wrote plays and started the schools literary journal. He participated in life at the high school and made it a better place. He participated consistently in the classroom thinking/synergy and had a really good letter from a teacher saying as much. They want people IMHO, who make things happen, who see an opportunity and take it, who contribute to the community in the classroom and campus, not just attend. Oddly, my son did not interview, and was accepted. He made the tour de kenyon video on this site…Be you, if you are a fit, you will get in. If not, you will be happier elsewhere…He has loved the school
@elle232 Thanks!! He sounds like the kind of student any college would be thrilled to have. Kenyon sounds great. How is being far from a real city? Does it just make the students more connected to each other without the outside distractions?
My S did interview and I am pretty sure that was a huge contributing factor… he is such a great fit for Kenyon. e is a Freshman there now and is in absolute bliss. He is funny, authentic, humble, creative, thinks out f the box, did a ton of non-confroming and interesting EC’s. He had very high SAT’s but just so-so grades… 3.5 I think. A lot of AP’s though. My S is doing all kinds of stuff at Kenyon now… and is the type to get stuff started, so loving being able to take the ball and run with it in so many areas… and I agree exactly with the last sentence of elle232’s post.
If it would help, I’m visiting Kenyon in early April for a Tour, Interview, and Info session and I could get back to you on what I think.
being away from a big city is kind of the purpose of Kenyon in most of the student’s minds, Kenyon gives us the intellectual and physical space necessary to connect with our work and our passions. Some of us were afraid to be so far from big cities but we love our little town and community in Gambier.
