Kenyon Hopefuls- Class of 2015

dnldmr: Thanks! I definitely will be pulling my hair out. I wish I could have applied ED, because Kenyon is definitely where I want to be.
Plus it’d be nice to get all of the waiting done early… haha

Submitting was not nearly as relieving as it should have been!

Why not apply ED? Kenyon meets 100% of EFC and I believe they are need-blind in the ED round only. (Don’t know about ED2).

antsy, where are you from? I know a soccer player applying ED as well.

Just applied EDII about fifteen minutes ago.
I love Kenyon and I hope I get in more than anything!
…Now the two more month wait until I find out

keylyme: for me, it was because of the loans aspect. They meet 100% of EFC, but I didn’t want to saddle my parents with too many loans just for undergrad. So that’s why I’m waiting to see. The instate school will basically be free, so that’s my backup.

Also, I looked at the website and admissions was quoted as saying that they are ‘primarily’ need blind, but take into account ability to pay in the last ‘5 or 10% of decisions’. Since I’m applying fairly early for regular, I’m hoping I won’t be one of those last 10%…

^^When we visited, we met with the admissions and FA people and were told that they are need blind in the ED round and there is more money available then. The FA director told us that loans are capped at either $3000 or $3500/year (these are student Stafford loans, not parent loans), and the student is expected to do a certain, fixed amount of work study as well as take aout a Kenyon low-interest loan of 1-2K/year (depending on the level of FA). We asked if any other loans (ParentPLUS, private loans, etc.) were packaged and were told that, no, all EFC was met with the above plus grants. Of course “demonstrated need” can be different than what a family was expecting, I suppose, but we were told that it should be consistent with what we got from the online EFC calculators.

NCBoy1, I’m from Maryland. I assume that there are going to be a lot of recruited soccer players, though, because it’s one of Kenyon’s only successful sports teams, haha. Soccer players and swimmers are for sure in, I think.

On an unrelated topic: my friend told me that she called admissions a couple days ago, and they told her that the decisions would be posted online. Can anyone find this mentioned anywhere? Because I thought that I read on myapp.kenyon that they would only be mailed. Am I completely wrong?

Did she ask when they put them online? I read somewhere that they put the statuses online but only after they send out all the mail. Do we know if they are going to put it online on the 15th?

Oooh, that could be what they meant. From what I know, mail definitely comes first. I really don’t think they put them online on the 15th. But now I’m just kind of confused, haha.
I’m freaking out, because Georgetown sent out their decisions today without warning their applicants–and they were supposed to find out on Wednesday. So now I feel like I’ll be rushing to the mail everyday this week, and not just Thursday/Friday. Gahhh, this waiting will kill me!

hello. i am also a kenyon 2015 hopeful. i was never given instructions for the myapp.kenyon.edu site and i was wondering if any of you could tell me what information is actually available on the myapp thing? is it just application status info or is there more important information

It’s basically just application info, but that might be important, since it tells you if they have everything they need from you. Your supplement, recs, transcript, etc. I would definitely contact someone if you haven’t gotten a link, unless you just applied, in which case I’m sure you’ll gain access soon.

no, i applied ED 1 so if they were going to send me a link they would have. did they send you a link when you applied? i’ve gotten confirmation that my application is complete so i wont worry too much. also, is there any chance that they might send the letters out earlier than the 15th?

I didn’t get my myapp information right away and had to email my local rep to be able to get the information, so maybe their system was just lagging. As long as you got the email and postcard I’m sure you’re fine. You know I really wish there was a chance they would send them out earlier, but I really don’t know. Has anyone read on their website any information about when they might send out the results, I tried looking but couldn’t find it anywhere?

My guess is that they will send them out as soon as they are done making all the decisions, so it could be the 15th or it could be a little earlier. I’m going to just keep checking my mail anxiously!

I read somewhere on there that last year Kenyon sent ED 1 decisions out two days late. Let’s hope it doesn’t happen again this year. Waiting is KILLING me!!! But on the bright side there are only supposed to be three days left until decisions are mailed! =)

My son applied ED1 last year and yes, the letters seemed to go out later than many other schools. We live in New England and he didn’t get his letter until the 21st. It was painful but I’m pretty sure he would say worth the wait. Good luck!

Oh geez, if I have to wait all the way to next Tuesday to get the results I am going to go insane. I am going to cross my fingers that they send them on time and the USPS is speedy.

Hey, have any of you guys gotten any mail/email from Kenyon since applying ED1? Besides the postcard + email saying your app was complete, I mean.

I’m asking because of financial aid…My mom sent documents to them in early December, to try to have the Non Custodial Parent form waived, and we haven’t gotten any confirmation that they’ve received them or anything. Which could be normal, or a bad sign.

I guess what I’m asking is if anyone has heard from Kenyon since applying. That was long and rambling, ha.

I have not, except for the newsletter. I emailed them a couple of times and have still not heard back. So hopefully it’s not a bad thing!
Also, I’m pretty sure I’ll cry if I have to wait until the 21st. Waiting until the end of this week is torturous enough.

I will die if I have to wait until next week for the letter. I haven’t done anything for any other college, and I have to have a lot done by friday if I don’t get in. Ahhh, someone please let the board know right when you get your letter!
