I know that the SAT's don't matter THAT much in the admissions process, but what about the SAT II's?

I have a good GPA, and good SATs, but all of my SAT II's were dissappointing. Not terrible, but the percentiles were low and I only got 2 out of my 4 in the 700's. I am applying to top schools... does this really hurt my application?

Thanks a lot!

who said SAT's don't matter that much? of course they do.

If your applying for a major in that field, then yes you will get rejected because you've shown you do not have talent in that field. A Math major with a 600 Math IIC? Not going to happen.

If you got a 600 on the literature SAT II but you're applying for an engineering major, and have shown that you have adequate literary/reading skills elsewhere, then no it wont matter as much.

a low score in an area you plan to major in isn't a necessarily good thing, but it is NOT an auto-reject as rootbeercaesar suggests. And why take 4 anyway? most schools only want 2-3 anyway. They'll take your highest scores. Let bygones be bygones, unless you want to retake for pride or for a school that requires 3 SAT IIs.

I'd say you should try to take another SAT 2 in a subject you know you will get 700+ in. I think they are really looking to see that one area you truly shine in.

I've heard the language ones are hard.

I got a 760 in French, 750 in Math II, 680 in US History, and 640 in bio. I'm definately not going into ANYTHING science related, but I am considering a career in social studies... econ or political science. The reason I ask, is because I'm applying to Georgetown and I know they require three... they'd look at Math, French, and History. Do I have to take another one to replace the history? I really don't think I'd be able to study one in time :-(

No, I don't think you will be automatically rejected with those scores, not at all. I'm not trying to sugarcoat anything. Most colleges take your scores and they use it to give you consideration. After they see whether or not you can do the work at their school (with your scores, I don't think this would be a problem), they go to the other areas of your application and judge your other qualities that don't involve test taking! As long as you don't have a 100 or something (I think you get 200 for spelling your name right =P), they'll definitely consider your scores in the context of the rest of your application.

Just apply instead of listening to a bunch of us try to give you advice. You only have a measly application fee to lose! Good luck. =)
