Ok, I got a few sealed recommendation letters from my teacher before break (Because I hadn't chosen which colleges to apply to yet) but one wasn't glued down very well and the flap came loose in my bookbag. I tried to reseal it but I accidently tore a small part of the flap and didn't align it very well (the signature). Now the envelope looks pretty tampered with and I am afraid to send it off. The post office was closed today anyway, and I was thinking that since my app is in, it'd be ok if sent the letter tommorrow. What should I do?

I'd recommend emailing ugadmissions@caltech.edu or calling the main office number (listed on the website) tomorrow or Tuesday. In this situation, the office may be willing to accept a slightly late letter mailed by your teacher or school, if you explain your circumstances. (Though obviously I am not promising that it would be accepted late -- but you can at least ask.) That's what I would probably have done in your position.

Ok thanks for the answer. I think I may just send it off tommorrow anyway. Do you think admissions would care about the physical appearance of the letter? Well in any case it is actually just a supplemental letter.
