So months ago I asked this one teacher to write me a recommendation for EA. He said he did and mailed it. MIT showed that they did not receive it so i asked him to fax it and i gave him the number. I followed up the next day and asked if he had faxed it. he responded, Yea I sent it out. So now just last week I went on to myMIT for the first time in a while to ge the mid year form. Well what do you know, they still don't have it. I contacted MIT and they said they didn't have it, so I emailed my teacher to fax it again but no response. I'm going to talk to him tomorrow and see what's been happening. I'm pretty ****ed since it's happeneing to my other friend who also asked him for a rec. So my question is this, why didn't MIT contact me during EA to let me know they hadn't received it? Also, will this hurt my chances?

I would ask a different teacher to do your rec. If they already have the one, and your teacher DID send it and the foul up is on MIT's side, then you won't offend your teacher and MIT will just get a third rec. If the guy really has not sent it and is annoyed by your asking again, then what are the chances that the rec will be good? Better to go with someone else.

Bah...my 'counselor' sent in all my transcripts with only one rec! coz...my other teacher hadn't submitted my rec...(things that are supposed to happen over the summer)

anyway...i had a different teacher do my rec. in half a day and send it.

OK well Italked to him today and he didn't seem annoyed at all. He was like " They still didn't get it?" and i told him what to do and he said he would do it today. I'm goign to follow up tommorow and see what's up.

Why didn't you check MyMIT sooner? I also had a rec missing almost up until the EA deadline. I contacted the admissions office and they directed me to e-mail (a photo of) the letter.

MyMIT is there so you can track your own application. The admissions office has enough things to worry about, and they aren't going to assume that every application with something missing is a result of document mishandling - many students start and don't complete applications.

Because I followed up with my teacher who said he faxed it and when i received the deferral to RD I assumed that everything was in. It doesn't make sense that they would give me the decision if not everything were in.

It's not like they can wait for the letter to arrive, THEN give you a belated EA decision. If the admissions office doesn't receive something, and YOU don't contact them to inform them that the missing document isn't supposed to be missing, they should probably assume that you didn't intend for the missing document to have been submitted. After all, MyMIT was available for you to check, and it is announced that MyMIT is available for you to check, so they aren't in the wrong to assume that the students will check and inform them of problems.

Ok I agree that I should have checked MyMIT more often. I just think that they should have said that somethign was missing when they gave me the deferral. Receiving a letter saying that they reveiwed my application seemed to imply to me that everything was in.
