Does anybody have any info on what Umass Lowell is like? I'm seriously considering going there next year.

I definitely would not recommend it. I've heard a couple bad things, such as not a very good campus, not a great city, and subpar academics. UMass Amherst is decent, but Northeastern and U of B are much better options. And of course others like BC and Tufts if you can get into them.

See the problem is I hate Umass Amherst its way 2 big and my parents want me to go a public mass college or university and I dont like Umass Boston or Datmouth either

What about Brandeis, Clark, or Williams?

? Bridgewater State

I know kids who have very good things to say about U Mass Dartmouth, and about Westfield State. There's also Mass. College of Liberal Arts in Western Mass.

see I hear bad things about Dartmouth and Westfield and MCLA is in the middle of nowhere tyhe public school I go to I will only attend for 1 or 2 years before I transfer to a better school

anyone else?

Bridgewater?

Bridgewater is ok I'm not sure about it yet thanks for the suggestion! Anyone else?

Western New Egland College

ok thanks im still looking if anyone else has anything

MCLA is basically lousy. I live in Pittsfield (about 30 min south of North Adams). No offence to anyone who goes there, but it is much closer to the level of a community college than any other Massachusetts state school. UMass Amherst may seem big, but it runs like a small city - there are smaller communities and you won't really be seen as a number except in some of the really big lecture classes. The professors are amazing, really, some of the best in their fields. Many people actually consider Berkshire Community College better than MCLA in overall academics - most people go to UMass Amherst for two years after going to BCC. People from my school who go Westfield are mostly music students, those who go to UMass Dartmouth are mostly business students. Just to give some examples.

thanks anyonde else?

Visit and see if you be comfortable there.

Would you have any chance of getting financial aid? If so, a private school may end up costing you the same as a state school. What majors are you considering?

I want to major in US History and I will get financial aid. But I dont know how much.

Any other information on Mass State schools?

bump......

The Mass state schools are not very good in general. UMass Boston is ranked extremely low-near the bottom of the list for the whole country. Maybe you should look at Amherst. People complain bitterly about the housing there-that after two years in the dorms, you must pay for expensive local apartments. But academically, it may be the best choice. People complain that Bridgewater has no life on the weekends, since many people commute or go home weekends. You should visit a number of these places. All of the UMass campuses are probably better for you than the other state universities, but you never know. Bridgewater and Framingham may be OK. Fitchburg used to attract a lot of smart kids from my high school, but it's out in the middle of nowhere. Not sure why they chose it- seems UMass would have been better for them and only slightly more expensive..
