Kinda worried about something need some current UC student advice

Ok so i feel kinda weird for asking and wondering this but...

Im kinda depressed at the fact that i wont be at a UC untill im 24...the reason is out of HS i didnt get into the school i wanted(UCSD) and so i went to a CC to transfer..instead i got into lots of trouble my first 3 years and basically wasted those 3 years. i just recently got serious and turned my life around. But now im 21...i feel old i mean REALLY old. Because for my major to transfer to UCSD i need to be at a CC for 3 years so that means that i will be 24 going on 25 barely getiting into a UC..

Now most first time UC students are 17/18...im gona be 24 almost 25...

Im just wondering am i gona get made fun of a lot and things for being that old and since i will be living on campus(i cant drive from norcal to socal everyday so i will be living there) will i even be able to make friends since i will be that old when everyone around me is still a teenager??

like i said kinda feel weird and dumb for asking but its been on my mind a lot lately.

yep everyones going make fun of you

(SRS)

(not srs)

(kinda srs)

You’ll be fine. There’s probably plenty of people at UCSD around your age. You just have to find them. And this is your future we’re talking about. Don’t worry about some random people making fun of you (which they won’t anyway).

Do remember that as transferring is a popular option, there are also a lot “first timers” who are 20/21 as well. It’s not like the school is filled with all 17/18 year olds. That would be absolutely horrifying. They do grow older (and hopefully grow up for those that hadn’t already) as time goes on ;)

My experience has been there is a wide range of ages at all UCs. I’m turning 26 this year myself. I was 24 when I transferred. I purposefully waited because of financial reasons. I’m now an independent student who is able to attend with minimal loans and several grants and scholarships. I am far from being the oldest undergraduate at any of the campuses. Granted, I just finally started being able to pass for 18. My hallmates last year thought I was 20 only because I was a transfer.

The extra plus? Because I was working while I waited (as well as attending classes at CCCs), I will have an edge over those who only have degrees when they graduate. I only received interviews for my last couple jobs because I had previous work experience.

You’ll be fine. Don’t sweat it. As long as you don’t start shaking your cane and telling kids to get off your lawn, you’ll have no issues ;)

thx for the help i appreciate it

I’m going to be celebrating my 23rd birthday this August and then starting at UCSD in the fall. I’m not really worried about it, but I’ll let you know if it’s a huge issue. I mean, there are all kinds of people going to school that didn’t follow the traditional high school time line, and there are grad students, and there are people that you can meet off campus.

I have some younger friends at the JC I go to now, and I’m probably already older than most of the students in my GE classes anyway. It’s not like I talk about our ages all the time. I don’t feel ridiculously older than any of them.
