I just came back from the cinema, and that was an amazing movie! It had some historical inaccuracies, but that is how history should be taught..in live action. I've seriously been encouraged now to go and read more about this! So..in general, anyone know any good Muslim/Arab history books? Right now I'm reading about the Crusades online to compare what really happened..but I definently do know that some parts of the movie were true. I've never been that interested in history before in my life.

If there was to be a class that just watched and discussed historical movies and what really happened, I bet many would sign up and they'd probably learn a lot too! I think I may have gotten a wrong idea about history..and from the very beginning, the teacher encouraged people not to take the current history class I'm in now. That kind of attitude certainly didn't increase the little initial interest I had..but I'm really seeing sorta for the 1st time that history can be really nice!

If anyone saw this movie, what did you think?

I've heard that Orlando Bloom is awful in this, if only because he is the complete opposite of what a warrior would look like. Next to Mel Gibson and Russel Crowe, Bloom looks like Goldilocks.

Maybe I'm easily amused ..?
I say go see it. Do you like battles and the like? Well even if you don't, like I previousy didn't care much for them, I think (hope) that you'll like the movie anyway. :)

I really like the way that it isn't biased and shows both good and bad parts of each side. Some movies lean to one side, even if that side wasn't the victor.

I don't know aim, I thought Bloom was a pretty good actor..it was the queen that was horrible. Bloom was very serious and sorta daring like a general should be.
Did the actress who played the queen play in Passion of the Christ as a devil in the beginning? And the 1/2 a minute sex scene though was totally unnecessary in my opinion. Here I am on the edge of my seat watching battles and swords clashing and da da da then this married whore comes and totally seduces my man. What the crap is that.

And leigh, I know this is phenomenal that it's coming from me! Maybe I'm more into the Euro history. Or maybe my teacher simply wasn't interesting. Hmm.

ROFL you said it! Maybe it's just the lack of knights and medieval glamour in your APUSH books. -_-

Maybe that's it. Probably a combination of the boring teacher and the book and the discouragement. I mean..the book describes battles and it tries to be wordy and interesting..but it just doesn't show, it merely tells the story. You just gotta SEE it. Some books succeed but the American Pageant fails miserably.

i slept during some of the scenes... if you are looking for action, i think you would be disappointed, gibson or crowe far surpasses orlando bloom as an warrior-actor. the plot is boring, no real surprises anywhere. however, i have to note that the king of jersualem was kinda interesting, if you know what i mean.

My history teacher told us in no uncertain terms that this movie was so rife with historical inaccuracies that it was a joke. It represents nothing of what the crusades actually were. At best it appeals to people's psuedo-serious enthusiasm for things that seem "historical".
