Kluge Scholars @ Columbia vs. Fordham Honors programs and dean's scholarship?

I love both programs but don’t know if Columbia is worth the money. I have all the expenses covered at Fordham and no aid at Columbia. I’ve heard the honors program is super intense/prestigious but I don’t know if I should pass up Columbia. I applied to Fordham last minute as a backup and didn’t expect such a good offer. Now I don’t know what to do. Any information on either program would be super helpful.

Would be studying Film at both, Fordham Lincoln center location

I personally really enjoyed the Honors program at Fordham LC (I’m graduating this year) - it’s a very specific experience, I took 14 of my classes with the same group of people. I personally really enjoyed that comradery, my roommate since my sophomore year is in the honors program with me and I’m living with two people from my class after graduation. I also studied abroad with a friend from the honors program. The community is really special.

You also get to know some of the best professors at the school from your first semester - both of my major advisors are department chairs, and I got to be a part of two research projects in addition to my research grant for my senior thesis. You’re definitely not wasting time in a random core class taught by a first-time professor grad student. My freshman history class required 4 12-15 page research papers, the freshman science class covers relativity, genetics, and quantum mechanics, and many of the humanities classes are very heavy reading - a book a week per class. I loved it because I came to college to learn a lot and really dive in, but it’s not for everyone.

If Fordham is paying for everything, I would say go for it. Why pay 250,000+ dollars for a private school film degree when you could pay $0? I will say that LC isn’t the most involved campus in terms of clubs, but that’s because people are really passionate and dedicated to a lot of different things. Last semester, I had two student jobs, an internship, was writing my thesis, and taking a full course load, and I would say that most LC students are equally dedicated to a lot of different things.

I don’t know specifics about the film department at Fordham - I took one film class and hated it, but I think I was the problem tbh, it’s just not my thing. My roommate is getting a master’s in public media at Fordham after majoring in Film, though, so I could ask her if you have any specific questions.

Let me know if you have any more questions!

If you can afford Columbia, then you should attend. If finances are an issue then Fordham should be the easy choice.

At a cost difference of at least $308,000 for a 4 year undergraduate degree in film, there is only one reasonable answer.

Columbia’s Film School is one of the best in the country. Why not go to Fordham undergrad, save the money and then go for an MFA in Film as a postgrad?

Why LC at Fordham and not Rose Hill?
