Hey, do you all know of any offices in the CP (or DC/MD) area that are hiring for ANY (paid) position this summer? So far o-fer obs/internships and at this point will take any job not in food service. Part time/full time, I'll take anything.

It's amazing how I've gone to running a student orientation that serves 3,000 parents and 4,000 parents to not getting an email back about setting up chairs and tables in the Stamp student union (even after they contacted me first!), or sitting at a desk in the library. But such is life.

I've applied for several jobs in several fields--I'm qualified to work customer service, some teaching, office work, tours, secretarial positions, mowing lawns, tutoring, lots of different things, language work.

Wow, I’m really surprised to hear you’re not running orientation this summer. You’re so good at it! I wish you all the best in finding something. You’re so personable, very organized, and smart. Any company would be lucky to have you!

I couldn’t run Orientation this summer because I studied abroad in the fall. Fall is when they do a lot of planning, not to mention hiring for the next year. Besides, you know it’s time to leave a job when your younger brother joins the staff (he’s an OA now).

somebodynew…you must be someone special if both oregonianmom and astrophysicsmom think you are someone VERY special! My daughter will be a freshman in HH in the fall, coming all the way from CA. She’s very excited and I’m well…we’ll see how I do when she is so far away. Any words of wisdom for the freshman or the soon to be lonely momma?? ;)

Pack light. I have a friend who goes here from LA, and it’s always a battle when she tries to go home. If you have a good computer, consider webcam chatting–my girlfriend video chats with her parents about once a week to get some actual face time with her family (including Ninja Kitty). For your daughter–go to class, and try something she’s never done before. For instance, after 18 years of never having taken ANY form of dance class, I procrastinated on some homework to join a couple girls going to a free tango lesson–3 years later I’m an officer in the club with a few performances under my belt.

When we moved DS out on Friday they had a flyer posted right next to the elevator about summer jobs at UMD answering phones. He lived in Centreville Hall, maybe you want to hop over there and see.

Just want you all to know that I just accepted a job on campus. It’s only part-time, and it’s a secretary position, but it’s paid and gives me freedom to do some ESL tutoring/volunteering and take some tango classes. Thank you all for your support and ideas.
