Knox

I am looking at Knox as a potiential school to transfer to. I have a couple of questions:

Are the students into learning and academics/ serious about academics?

How is the social scene? is there a big party/drug culture and are kids more into doing other things to have fun?

I am looking for a student body of smart intellectual down to earth kids that value more than just partying and drinking and hooking up with every guy they meet.

How is the music/ theater depts/ choirs?

How is Jewish life?

Thank you so much.

I'm going to try and answer this. My daughter is a sophomore at Knox and loves it. She takes her academics very serious. She loves the fact that at Knox she can get into deep discussions about issues. She does go to parties but there have been many weekend nights when she has been in the library or just sitting around talking. Her friends that I have met have been pretty down to earth kids. As for the music/theatre department, I've heard that it is pretty strong. She has friends in choir and they seem very busy. I will have to ask her what she has heard about Jewish life as we are not Jewish. I'll let you know.

onward, pls post any other info, if you don't mind. My d is interested in Knox, too -similar questions about Jewish life.

I just e-mailed my daughter and should have some answers by tonight. I'll let you know.

ask her if she ever saw a klezmer band at knox.

Okay, I finally got hold of my daughter. And no, she has never heard of a klezmer band but she is intrigued. What is it? She says there is a fairly active Jewish group on campus. There is a Hillel Club that provides transportation to the local temple (Temple Sholom), has speakers and events. She says they also hold dinners. If you have any other specific questions, feel free to ask me. It just takes me a while to get an answer as she seems to be pretty busy. But she loves Knox!

Eastern European jewish folk music, w/ a strong hint of gypsy music - very upbeat with clarinets, drums, horns, violins and vocals prominent, we are from chicago and we have seen this band. my d would love to play in one if she could (vioin)

How about economics and psychology at Knox College?

kindhearted,

The next time I talk to my d (she is in Argentina for the semester), I will ask her what she knows about the psych and econ. I know she has taken courses in both areas and loved them. She even considered econ as a minor for a while. Have you had a chance to visit Knox?

kindhearted,

I talked to my d. today and asked her about econ and psych. She has a friend who is an econ major at Knox and speaks very highly of the major and the professors. Psych, she also felt was very strong. Soc, she didn't know much about. I really think you need to visit the school if you can. Knox is an interesting school and there are many ways to experience it.
