Music scene and Jewish life

Can anyone tell me about the music scene at Davidson? As in, among the students, if there are a lot of active bands and how much a part of social life they are (if that makes any sense...)?

(also, rather than start 2 threads, I figured I'd just combine both my questions into one)

My other question is about Jewish life at the College. I live in a very small town in a rural area with a VERY small Jewish community (in my graduating class of about 55, I'm the only Jewish person). I've never visited Davidson, but from what I've read, it sounds like a great fit for me, except for maybe this aspect; I'm interested in going somewhere with a vibrant Jewish community and really becoming more involved, and from what I've read, the Davidson community is quite small. It would be a shame if this were the only thing keeping me from seriously considering Davidson, since I like just about all the other aspects of the place, but it is important to me...

Thanks for your help, I appreciate it.

Lots of active bands and they frequently play for parties and locally. Additionally, every Thursday night there is a "Live Thursdays" program at the Union for all kinds of performers -- comedians, bands, singers, poets, etc.
We also have Pep Band and other performing opportunities. Pep band members get free tickets to all home games and possibly discounts on away game tickets.

Our rabbi, Michael Shields, is excellent. I'm fairly certain he's conservative. I don't go to Jewish Life / Hillel meetings often, but there are always services on high holidays and there are always rides to the services off campus. According to the Jewish Life calendar on my fridge, here are several shabbat dinners here and there, a family weekend shabbat service, a Purim carnival celebration, a second night seder, and Yom Kippur services. There are also several bagel brunches and lectures about Judaism. The program leaders and members of a local congregation make "final exam surprises" (candy bags) and bring 'em to your room on reading day.

Not gonna lie, there are not many Jews at Davidson. I think there are like ~20 per class. But the community is still pretty active.
