KU Honors Program Acceptance Time-frame?

For those who've previously applied & been accepted to the KU Honors Program, do you recall how much time passed between when you applied to the program and when you were accepted/notified? I ask because DS visited KU for an Honors Program Day this summer, and he was very impressed, as was I. Despite other apps he's completing this semester, KU Honors remains DS's #1 choice thus far. He applied online earlier this week and submitted the honors essay, which he'd been working on for a while. He got a general acceptance email today, but no mention of the Honors Program. The email was very basic, and alluded to info coming in the mail, so I'm not worried at this point - but I am wondering about the timeline and if he would have been notified about the Honors Program via that initial email. His test scores & transcript probably haven't even reached KU yet, so I assume it will take him a while to be notified...either way...?

Any insight would be welcomed, because he has his heart set on KU now and I have to say that I don't blame him after our visit day. But I'd really like to see him in the KU Honors Program and the faculty & students we encountered stressed that admissions are selective.

Thanks.

My daughter is in the honors program at KU. The acceptance from the honors program came as a separate letter. It took about a month from the time of application to hearing back. That was 2 years ago. Good luck to your son! It has been a great place for my daughter! Also, if you ever have any questions I would encourage you to call KU and ask. Calls I have placed to KU, to whatever area, have been answered with kindness and willingness to help.

My son applied in August and was accepted about a month later. Not sure if it helped that my husband and I both graduated from KU. Good luck to your son! We are looking into University of Alabama too, our visit is next week.

Thank you, @amazondotmom! DS was accepted to the Honors College recently, not too long after I posted my question, actually. It was also about a month’s time for him, too. DH & I are also KU grads, along w/DH’s parents, but neither of us were in the Honors College. I have to say I was incredibly impressed w/what they had to say on the Honors visit day, so we are very pleased that DS was admitted.

DS is NMSF, so if he makes it to NMS, then I believe his KU tuition is covered, but I need to fully investigate the scholarship. He will also apply to UA and I’d be interested in your impressions of it, based on your visit. If you post over in the UA thread, I will watch for that.

I’m fairly certain that DS will wind up at KU now. At first, I wasn’t open to the idea, since KU is such a large school and I worried that DS would just get lost in the crowd. However, the Honors Program appears to be a great way for him to connect at KU, so everything has worked out well.

For anyone reading this who has a DC that’s even slightly interested in the KU Honors Program, I strongly encourage an Honors Day visit. That made all the difference to DS, and to me.

Consider applying to a scholarship Hall as well as Honors Program. Check KU web page about the schol halls for info. Makes the university seem a lot smaller
