L&S Pathway/Major Selection Question

I got into Berkeley for L&S, and want to pursue the BA in Computer Science

Apparently I need to get a 3.3 GPA in the introductory CompSci classes, is this hard?

I got a 1490 SAT and 4.36 UC GPA, so you know about my range of skills

Anyone?

Looks like the percentages of students earning B+ or higher grades in the L&S CS prerequisites are:

49% CS 61A
59% CS 61B
47% CS 70

(B+ is 3.3 in GPA calculations.)

It’s hard to tell just based on SAT and UC GPA how well you’ll fair. The intro to CS courses are basically weeder courses to see how well you can do. For some people it clicks and they pass by easily, some people struggle to get anywhere close to the GPA requirement. Either way if you’re interested in CS, CS61A is a good yardstick as to how well you’ll fair, and if it doesn’t work out there are a lot of majors close to CS that you can switch to, so may as well try it out.

I’ve heard of a lot of horror stories of people not getting into the L and S CS major. However, it really depends on your work ethic and prior knowledge in CS. The reality is it’s tough. ATB
