I’m currently a junior, and I’ve done all honors/AP classes possible except in my freshman and sophomore I did not do honors English. I also did not take AP world history and I took a study hall my freshman year. My family lead me in the wrong direction during those years, but I made all A’s and I was on the softball team until I moved this year, quit, and decided to focus on my music outside of school. I didn’t do clubs until this year either. Did I ruin my chances at getting into prestigious schools? I got a 210 on my PSAT, but plan on doing much better on my SAT. I want to be a doctor one day, and my dream school is Brown. However, by evaluating everything I’ve done so far, I don’t stand out at all. I don’t really have any leadership achievements. I do stand out (as a human being, not on paper) with my natural affinity for learning. Teachers constantly tell me I’m going to do great things in life, probably because I have excellent grades and go above and beyond to truly understand concepts instead of memorizing them, but I imagine most Ivy League applicants are like that anyway. And they’re in clubs, sports, all honors, etc.
If you need to know a little more about me:
I’m in NHS, ASL, Key Club (but only starting this year). I passionately play piano and guitar, but I don’t do it for school. (Side question: Can I still include my musical activities on my app even though I don’t compete?). I will have done Spanish for 5 years by the time I graduate, and this summer I will be living in a Spanish-speaking country to become closer to being fluent. I find all class subjects interesting, but particularly love science, and I desperately want to be a surgeon when I grow up.
Help me out please, and don’t sugarcoat anything(:
