I plan on transferring to UVA as a 2nd to the School of Nursing for fall 2009.
I am very interested in living in Lambeth. Does anyone have anything good/bad things to say about Lambeth Field? How's social life? How are the students in Lambeth?
Anyone here who's had experiences with Lambeth?
Is Lambeth a long walk to the Nursing School?
SHOULD I EVEN HAVE LAMBETH AS ONE OF MY OPTIONS!?

Google “Lambeth” for the first bunch of questions. We’ve talked about it a ton.

As for the walk to the nursing school, Bice is much closer, but Lambeth is serviced by two bus loops, and you can also walk 5min to another bus stop that will take you over to the hospital area.
I personally liked Lambeth a lot and would pick it over Bice

Thanks shoebox,
I also LOVED lambeth a lot more than bice. I heard lambeth is known for having the “social” crowd, but who am i to say?
I was also considering Brown College, but I’m still very hesitant about it. Living near central grounds would be awesome!
But is it even possible to walk all the way to the nursing school if i live in lambeth?

My best friends lived in Lambeth my 2nd year at UVA - they loved it, and my girlfriend/now wife lived there my senior year as an RA and also loved it. Can be a bit rowdy compared to many of the other living situations, and it’s a bit of a hike to the center of campus.

Still, it’s a lot of fun and for upperclassmen, you won’t go wrong landing a spot there.

Yes, you can walk to the nursing school from there. 15min walk, my guess. The bus system is pretty good though, especially to get you to central grounds. The walk to the main part of grounds is ~10min, eschool area is ~15

if the only reason you want to live in brown is the location, i’ll just be honest: we have the application almost entirely to weed out the people who just want the location. we’re very good at spotting those people. if you think brown college sounds pretty cool and you’d like to get to know the people who live there, then the location is just a plus and you should definitely apply. i’ve known at least 2 nursing students in brown college and they liked it well enough.

My d lived in Lambeth last year and liked it a lot. The walk is good for you and the nursing school is not much farther than Starbucks on the Corner; she did it all the time. Not sure if you’re interested in this angle, but the apartments themselves are pretty nice if you don’t mind double rooms. Four students share one bathroom. Her apt had been repainted and all new furniture in the LR and bedrooms. The kitchen and 2 bathrooms were very dingy but were scheduled for renovation the summer they moved out. Not sure what the condition of all properties there might be. Her room looked out on a beautiful big field surrounded by columns (naturally!). D and friends made good friends with neighbors; she is not a major partier (so I’m told) but I never heard that Lambeth was out of control. Getting in and out of parking lot on game days is probably the major drawback but access to Barracks and grocery stores is an advantage. Good luck!

Hazelorb,

No, the location at Brown College is NOT the only reason I wanna live there. I absolutely loved Brown when I slept over my friends dorm, or “portal.”
About how many nursing students do you think live in Brown? And how are the kids at Brown? Nice? Liberals? Open-minded? Smart?
I know it’s too general a question. Haha

There were at least 2-3 first years (of 50), I’d assume the mix is about the same upperclass.
People in brown are all of : nice, liberal, open minded, smart. :)

I had a class in Wilson last year that ended at 1:50pm and a class in the Nursing school that started at 2:00pm, I’d literally have to run to make it on time…think about the distance between Lambeth and the Nursing school (take into account the fact that you might have other classes scattered throughout grounds). Look into Bice if you’re going to stay on-grounds.

Wahoomb,

Isn’t Bice one of the newly renovated residences at UVA? I wouldN’t mind living in Bice, and I’m sure I’ll love it after some time or weeks. I’m just kind of worried it’s a
Little isolated from the grounds, parties (not that that’s all important haha), activites, libraries, dining halls etc… Is this the case?

No! Not at all, Bice is on Brandon avenue (plenty of parties), it depends on what type of parties you’re into (JPA-regular peeps or down 14th–fratty, etc). JPA is not very far from Bice (you can take a short cut through valley road and you’ll be on JPA in no time). The Wedge apts are also by Bice (by the language houses) and there are plenty of parties there as well. Bice is a short walk from Cabelle and Wilson (and thus the dining halls)…I never lived there (I lived on Brandon), but I had a few friends that enjoyed the location.
