Could someone please explain the differences between these two exams to me?

I don't really get it... I'm sure this question has been asked before, but my search isn't working well, so if someone wants to link me, that'd be great.

Literature focuses more on author's intent, language focuses more on analyzing rhetorical devices. Basic idea I got from my teacher.

Lit = more fiction
Lang = more nonfiction

That's what I got from my teachers....... I think lit is a bit more difficult; instead of the "take a position and support it with evidence" writing for the essays; lit will always be about analyzing poems, prose, etc.
