Language in High school

Hi there!
I took high school spanish in middle school and two years in middle school. I am not a high school junior and all of the spanish classes are full. Does this count as three years of a language because some people have told me that my first year does not count. I could skip taking a language this year and just take AP spanish my senior year.
I am also taking the IB diploma.
How does this affect my college career?

Was it Spanish 1 or Intro to Spanish?

Foreign languages, unless you plan to major in the language, count little for admissions. Generally, if you have three years, you’re good. If the languages from middle school are on your transcript, they should count for HS credit.

^ Actually, that’s not true. The majority of colleges require that you go up through a certain level while in college (2-4 semesters depending on your major, unless you test out of it). Language is extremely important and most colleges look for 3-4 years of a consistent language.

I would keep trying to get into the Spanish class for this year. You do NOT want to skip a year and then go into AP Spanish. If your Spanish classes are on your transcript, they count. Again though, I would keep trying to get in to class this year.
