Language Placement

Anyone taken the language placement test? How was it? Tell me, do you think anyone who's only taken up to french 3 and it was way back 1st semester sophomore yr, has any chance of surviving?

D took it yesterday. She placed in the Intermediate level. She said it was sort of tough but then she has never enjoyed languages anyway. Just jump on in and take it - don't stress too much about it.

Is it necessary to do the language test if you have an AP score on a Language Exam that would be sufficient to test you out of the language classes and into the literature classes?

If I remember correctly from last year, you have to sign in and open the test, but then they'll tell you that you've got an AP score that satisfies, and so then you just sign out. Essentially, you've got to check in, but you don't have to take the test.

I took the French test and found it sort of easy (then again I took it through 5, I don't know how it would be if you haven't taken it since Soph year). You will probably breeze through most of the listening, which I thought was pretty basic. A lot of the grammar, however, will be difficult for ya. Good luck!

im applying to wake...so it seems like a language is required eh?

Yeah. You have to take through the literature course in any given language. You can place out of a language entirely with, I believe, a 4 or a 5 in the AP literature exam for whatever language you took. You place directly into the final language requirement with a 4 or a 5 on the AP language exam for whatever language. If you didn't take any AP exam in the language or you didn't get credit, you have to take a placement exam before you start school.

thanks guys....i'm brushing up a little on the french....but all my notes are from french 1...yikes!

I just finished it. wow....that sucked! haha. The listening portion was my worst. I think i guessed on all of it. haha...it said French 153...whatever that means

153 is where I placed last year (although I'm switching languages, so it doesn't matter). Placing into 153 means that you can be done with your language requirement in two semesters. 153 meets five days a week, and after that course, you'll be ready to go into the French lit. course.

sweet! so i guess it is good news. thanks ginnyvere!

What is the highest you can place out of the test? I placed into 213 (French Lit) but I was wondering if it can go even higher.

I believe that you can't actually place out of the French lit course any way except for the AP French literature exam, but I could be wrong.

I got a letter inviting me to the honors level french lit. forget the course, either 213H or 216H. I got a 4 on the AP french language exam.

I think that's 213H. I didn't take the AP, probably should have though.

they didn't offer it in my school because the french teacher left for Florida State University after sophomore yr, but I did have a choice of traveling to another high school every 2nd period and coming back at lunch for french 4 honors

We don't have an AP class either, we had to study for it independently, which I was far too lazy to attempt.

I guess I'm in Spanish 213 (got a 3 on AP Lang) - I did the first page, and the next page told me to sign out and just register for 213.

spanish 213. i hope to god that by spanish literature, they mean three page stories and poems.

If you're taking SPA 213, I recommend Professor Wooten--she's awesome.
