Language Prerequisite

I was taking a look at UCSD International Studies - Economics and it states that applicants should have equivalent of 4 quarters worth of a foreign language. But because I'm on the semester system it doesn't state which class meets that requirement. So does anybody know how many semesters of a language would equal 4 quarters?

3 quarters = 2 semesters

So the fourth quarter should be covered if you complete the third semester, but you can ask the department to be sure.

http://isp.ucsd.edu/_files/forms/ISPA-dmit-Guide-Book-2011.pdf</a> page 5 lists alternative ways of fulfilling the language requirement.

Is it possible to meet the requirement after transferring? Will they admit students without the foreign language requirement and allow them to take language classes before they graduate? Or are students who have not taken a foreign language or shown they understand a foreign language automatically rejected?

@ucb- Thank you for that link. I think you are right with the 3rd semester but I will call next week to be sure.

@aaaa- I am not sure, are you looking at that major also?

I am looking at the business oriented majors but I was just asking since this thread is about foreign language requirements.
