language question

does anyone know if its possible to take greek if you're in sfs? i reallyyyyy wanna learn greek, but im in sfs, not the college, so i couldnt major in it or anything. is it possible for me to take it at all? and also how do you get placed into your language class freshman year? i took 3 years of russian in highschool but because of scheduling conflicts couldnt take it this year, so i wouldnt have to start in a basic class but i dont think im ready to take the oral exam yet...i just want to get that over with though so that i can take another language...how will i know which level russian class i qualify for, or do i start in a basic class no matter what?

I'd like to know this too.

you have to take a placement exam before classes begin to determine what level class you should be put into. i think more details are online at the new stundent orientation site (nso.georgetown.edu).

oh hey, i have a simialr question. I'm in the sfs, but i'd like to do a double major or minor or something in german. I lived there for ayear, and I'm fluent, but i've never taken it in high school as a foreign language. also, is it possible t otake 2 placement exams for languages? i'd like to continue studying french, as i did in high school, but i'd like to do german too.

You can't double major in the SFS. You can take more than one placement exam, however.

I believe SFS does require you to become proficient in a modern language, and you have to pass the proficiency exam to graduate. You can take whatever language you want (except for ancient greek/latin, etc.), as long as it fits in your schedule. I think you can minor in a language in the SFS, but not do a double major.

You can't double major OR minor in the SFS, even in a language. Whatever language you take must be a modern language, so your best bet is to stick with Russian.
