Hi Gators! My daughter took Spanish 1 in 8th grade and Spanish 2 in 9th grade. She then took Spanish 1 and Spanish 2 through dual enrollment at the community college, each worth 4 credits. How many years of Spanish will UF count this as? Do they require 4 years? Thanks!
Got my answer. Thank you!
@funfit WHAT IS THE ANSWER?
@jhmoney - 2 years which is what is the required amount. The dual enrollment and high school Spanish repeat each other.
@melissa96 so the other 2 Spanish classes won’t count as part of her UF core GPA?
@Melissa96 would we still count the college level class as an elective for purpose of recalculating the UF Core GPA?
@jhmoney Transfer credits do not count as part of the UF core GPA. This is done solely based on classes taken at UF. Spanish 1 and 2 will fulfill the language requirement for UF, they just won’t be calculated into the core GPA.
Also, UF now does not allow students to retake courses done by dual enrollment. If she wants to take Spanish, she will have to take higher classes! Hope this helps.
what do you mean transfer credit?
@beachgirl12345 what do you mean transfer credit?
@beachgirl12345 my question is if my daughter took honors Spanish 1,2,3 then took college Spanish 1 dual enrollment that doesn’t count? when I mean count , I mean when we are calculating her GPA for first year college admissions… the UF core calculated GPA
There are so many GPAs. Yes, it will count in the HS calculated GPA since it is an academic course. The transfer credits could not count in a UF college GPA since it is transfer credit.
@Melissa96 thanks thats good to know. don’t care if it counts towards her getting college credits or counting to the UF college GPA… was concerned about it calculating for her when they look at her recalculated GPA… let her get in the rest I won’t worry about lol
@Melissa96 I emailed admissions. They said Spanish 1 and Spanish 2 in high school and Spanish 1 and 2 at the community college would count as 4 years of Spanish. Are you saying it only counts as 2? I understand uf requires 2 years but likes to see more. Please advise. Thank you
@Melissa96 I’m also just interested in getting into uf. My daughter thought she has taken 4 years of Spanish. We are not interested in transfer credit.
@funfit I’m interested to know as well. But I’m more concerned about the gpa calculation as an applying freshmen. My daughter took spanish honors in 8th then 9th and 10th. In 11th she took dual enroll college Spanish 1. Hoping it counts towards her calculated gpa for applying. Can care less about the credit. It would be nice to show she took 4 years as well
@jhmoney I hope @Melissa96 gets back to us. Sandy in admissions says it’s 4. I responded to you on another post. Could you check it out. It’s under allie1013
@Melissa96 any word back on the language question?
@jhmoney - talked with Sandy, she answered the way she did because the course numbers are different and she doesn’t think that the SSAR will notice the content is the same.
@Melissa96 so is it counted as 2 years or four years of language? Thank you
@Melissa96 My daughter thinks the Spanish 1 and 2 was much more rigorous evidenced by earning 4 credits per class instead of the usual 3 credits for other courses ?
