language requirements

okay so i've just been really thinking about this, and i'd really like some input.
i'm currently a sophmore taking spanish 3 honors. next year, i am supposed to go on to spanish 4 ap. but spanish isnt really my stong point, and i was just wondering if i could just stop taking a language after this year. i already have 3 years of spanish, two of which i took during high school. would it look bad to colleges if i stopped taking spanish? or is it better if i just finish up with spanish 4 next year?

Make sure that the schools you are applying to require two years if you're not going to take Spanish next year. I don't think the one year of Spanish that you took in eighth grade counts. If you are considering on going somewhere that requires three years of language, you'll have to take up Spanish 4 next year.

No, for many colleges want five solids for four years. Foreign languages are solids, and many schools require 3 years of a foreign language, including some state schools.
And stopping Spanish when you are supposed to be taking a tough courseload is dumb. Junior year is critical.

Just want to mention that UCs only require two years (although three years are recommended). It would be nice to finish with Spanish 4, in my opinion.

if i do decide to take spanish 4, is it okay if i dont take ap?
because this is what my academic schedule will look like if i dont take it ap:
eng. 3 honors
pre-calculus
apush
bio 2 ap
spanish 4
i wanted another ap, so i was thinking of dropping spanish and picking up physics b ap instead. plus i want to eventually major in biomed or something like that. i'm still confused.

Yeah, taking regular Spanish 4 is better than not taking any Spanish at all. Since you are majoring in biomed, AP isn't necessary. Physics would look better.

haha i must sound really stupid right now, but is 6 ap courses during my entire high school career enough?

Of course it is. Some people go through high school without taking any. Taking six AP courses looks good to me.

Many high schools have none, and as such having taken 6 APs is very good. Do not be scared by the people on here that take more than 15 by HS graduation-it is not necessary if it is not offered.

competition is really tough at my school. like we are known for academics, sports, everything. here i am, as a sophmore with a 4.5 weighted gpa competing with those who have 5.0s and are taking like 2 years ahead of their level math. sometimes i just want to scream. haha anyways, thanks for helping guys! i think i'll go ahead and do reg spanish 4.

How bad are you at Spanish? If you are reasonably good, you could go on to AP Spanish 4, and take the AP Spanish Language exam.

i didnt make spanish honors society because i have 2Bs and 1A and i didnt get an A in spanish 3 honors last semster (i ended up with an 88%) and right now i have like an 84%. and i heard the college board people are changing the AP test for next year so its going to be incredibly hard. and i can't read spanish to save my life. its that bad. like the best i could do in spanish 4 AP will probably be a B. and it will probably be a struggle for me to keep that B. so maybe i'm better off just doing reg. and getting an A

I stopped taking a language after Sophomore year. In my opinion, I think it would be OK as long as you don't replace it with a slacker class. I took 2 Honors Science classes as a Junior to replace my language class gap. As long as you have a good reason not to take it, such as focusing on something that interests you more, as I did, I think it would be OK. I also got a scholarship from a prominent school and into an Honors program without the extra years of a language, which I think my focus on science actually helped me get.

I always would say to follow your interets rather than doing what you think others want you to do. You will get more out of it and it will serve you better iin the future.

yeah my focus is on science, so i wanted to replace spanish with physics b ap.
