second language

hi i am currently enrolled in Spanish III. my guidance counselor suggested that next year i drop spanish and take an AP class. Is three years of another language good enough for the top schools? thanks.

It depends. Many people applying to top schools have 4 years of a language, but if say, science is your thing it would look good to take a science AP class.

can't you take the ap spanish test at the end of the year?

Take 4 years of a language. Colleges like HYP reccomend it.

I hate it when guidance counselors tell people to drop their languages, like they're not to be taken as seriously as a chem class or something. My school doesn't even have a language requirement.

well spanish isn't my favorite thing but i dont want to get penalized for it. ill be taking AP US next year and if i kept spanish that would be the only AP. but if i dropped it i would probably take AP chem or AP bio. im a sophmore btw

bummmppppppppp

I have same situation

I think I will just take

SAT II of Spanish and hopefully get 700+ (have to do a lot of studying on own)

Then I can take an AP class instead of a language.

thats an idea

I have also wondered about this. I think I will probably take only take 3 years of a language.

I am in the same situation. Spanish is definitely the weakest part of my transcript and seems to be impossible for me to get an A. I think as long as you're not planning on doing anything language-related in college, you should be fine dropping it for a more challenging course.

Since I am interested in computers, I stopped at Spanish 3 (Freshman-Junior) and now as a senior I decide to AP Computer Science A.

I find it funny how people are saying they have such a hard time with a language, but they want to drop it for a more challenging course. One never hears someone say, "I'm really weak in AP Bio, so I'm gonna drop it and take French."

Actually... lol... my friend dropped AP Chem for German.
