languages

is it possible to somehow study a language at dartmouth that is not one of the foreign languages offered in the school's curriculum? Also, if it is not possible to study it on campus, can an interest in a certain non-offered language be parlayed into a trip abroad.

Thanks.

I’m not sure what language you’re looking for that they don’t offer, but the short answer is probably. You certainly could, but it would require administrative approval.

You probably can if you can find someone to teach the language. Sanskrit, for example, is a language not offered here, but there are a handful of professors who know a fair amount of it and you can sign up for independent study with them. But if it’s a truly obscure language that nobody here knows, I do not know if you can self-study it and earn credit for it.
