hey guys..atlast i ve shortlisted these two laptops..a lenovo ibm think pad..upgraded(1540$) and the mac book pro aroun 2000$ upgraded...both have almost similar tech specifications..which one shld i go for

Lenovo is a high quality brand, get it.

thinkpad for sure. sturdy and reliable. the new macbooks have a discoloration defect, not to take away from its sleekness. But in a college enviroment, Windows prevails.

both are excellent machines..i would recommend getting a thinkpad because it has windows...however u can put windows on a mac now...macs are less prone to viruses and crashes..i would go with the mac for stability and the thinkpad for general compatibility.

Thinkpad is in another league of its own.

Both machines are made by AsusTek, thogh Lenovo pays a Preimium for Asus's top of the line fabrication. Apple pretty much uses the lowest of the low, but the systems look nice.

Are you doing anything involving/requiring 3D graphics? If not, I would HIGHLY recommend the macbook (not macbook pro) over any other computer. It is not much slower than the macbook pro at all. Right now, you can buy one from the student apple store for $1200 and have a computer almost as powerful as the macbook pro. Upgrade the RAM on your own (it's easy to do this--I would recommend buying from ramjet). Pay the $80 to upgrade the HD to 80GB. It's actually a very reasonable price. The screen is amazing, and the resolution is high enough that you wont miss much in the screen-area department, despite the screen being only 13.3". I installed vista (beta) on mine, and that ran well, so I'd assume XP would, too. And, the installation-process for windows is pretty simple. I would highly recommend the mac, since now it does almost everything the PC does for only a marginally higher price, in addition to being significantly more stable and, in my opinion, enjoyable to use.

You can get a core duo 2500 for the price of the duo 2300, lenovo thinkpad, so IMO, your better off with the apple. While both are well made, you get better specs for the same price with the apple. I also find the built in webcam to be a nice feature on the macbook. I mean if your into saying hi to the parents and friends with it, as I am, you'll love it.

What are you using the laptop for? Personally, as a gaming nerd, I couldn't use the GPU inside the Lenovo.

and a macbook pro would be better, its a x1600M clocked lower than a x1400m

again both are good machines but with the macbook/pro u can get the best of both worlds.

ugh....HP nc8430

1.1 inches thin, and it has pretty much the same specs as a macbook pro with the durability of the thinkpad - but the x1600 is clocked correctly instead of the crippled one in the macbook.

plus it has a fingerprint scanner AND more then one mouse button, nifty am I rite?

definitely the thinkpad. you should only really consider the mac if you're into video editing and that sort of thing

mac is not only for video editing and graphics..its can be used a computer for daily use...and it is made to be that way...macs are definitely user friendly and don't have all the hassle of windows.
