laptop for U of M student

Hello, what kind of laptop type or model (or important specs to consider) do you guys recommend getting for an engineering major (or just say for a college student in general)?
And I heard that U of M overhauled a lot of its computer systems to macs. I'm planning on getting a PC, but it wouldn't be a problem right?

Basically, I'm just wondering if theres any specific pointers or specific laptop specs that you guys recommend getting as a U of M student.

thanks

i would suggest a macbook pro, because you can run mac osx and you can run windows through boot camp. that might be a little expensive though so if you are going to get a pc i would say it does not matter that much, because if you ever need to do something that your laptop can’t i am sure michigan has excellent computer labs.

Lenovo with Windows 7.

^^ i recently got a thinkpad and i love it
one thing to keep in mind is that if you plan on carrying your laptop around campus, size and weight are a big deal. if i were you i’d shy away from anything bigger than 14-15 inches and anything more than ~5 pounds. if you really want a larger screen, just buy a separate monitor for your room.

thanks guys. I’m probably going to get a mid-range laptop because it doesn’t seem like higher-end laptops are necessary
