Laptop Locks

Hello everyone,
I have a macbook and would like to buy a lock for it. However, I do not know whether a combo lock will be better than a key lock. Also, is there a specific brand which i should stay away from, or that I should buy?

Thanks!

I haven't decided yet if I'm going to buy a lock or not, so I'm interested in any opinions.

Not necessary, as long as you and your roomie lock the door when you're not in the room.

Here's one my son's college recommends:

<a href="http://www.targus.com/us/product_details.asp?sku=PA410U%5B/url%5D">http://www.targus.com/us/product_details.asp?sku=PA410U</a></p>

it's a combination lock and costs $34.99

I say get one.

It's inevitable that you will stop closing you door. When you do, people come. When you don't, people come.

Plus you'll want the door to be open so that you can throw stuff at people across the hall.

Yeah but as long as you are in the room, it's safe. Obviously, if neither you nor your roommate are in the room and you leave it open (or unlocked), it's unsafe. But if you lock it when you're not there, there's no issue of theft at all.

I have a thinkpad T61 and can't figure out where the lock i bought for it goes...

I bought one off ebay - it's a combo lock because I'd probably lose the key lock, and then be in quite the pickle...

thanks for all your suggestions!!!

i would get a key lock. some people have said their combo lock "magically" changes the combo itself and thus screws you over. a key lock usually comes with two keys, so if you lose one you have another.

I find mine to be a pain, in that they key tends to magically stop working like it is supposed to at times. So taking it out of my room can actually require a fair bit of effort. But the added security means that it is well worth it. There are times where, if I won't be gone that long, or have to carry heavy stuff to my room, I'll leave it unlocked. This fixes that.
