Are you guys buying a lock so when you leave your laptop in your dorm it'll be locked to the desk and not have to worry about anyone stealing it? lol
I'm just alittle paranoid about this cause my friend's friend got her laptop stolen when she went to work and I guess her roommate left the door unlocked for a little while and ya someone came in and stole it.
The lock I'm talking about is just a lock you could simply unlock it while you're in your room or something and when you're not it'll be securely attached to the desk or something.

I didn’t think it was a great idea at first, but now I’m buying one after being told by plenty of people that it’s a good idea. Even if no one ever tries to steal your laptop, at least the lock is there for peace of mind.

Last year in my dorm I used it. We always left out door open and would go around the hallway. Plus we use to have tons of people in our room. Didn’t think it’d get stolen, but it was nice knowing it wouldn’t (or it’d be difficult to anyways). However, this year I don’t. I probably should, but I’m in an apartment, so our door isn’t open that often and also they’d have to go through several rooms to get it, as oppose to a dorm where they’d just be right in our bedroom.

I had one last year and thought it was kinda of a hassle. I hated having to lock it and unlock it every time I wanted to take my laptop somewhere. This year I’m just going to lock my door… No big deal.

I’m never buying one. I live off campus and there is an outer door that leads to a hallway and four different suites that locks automatically. My roommate and I always lock the door to our room unless one of us is in the room so I have like two layers of security.

I also take my laptop with me most of the time. If I don’t I slip it under my covers or in my desk if I feel like hiding it.

My best friend lives in apartment with 5 other girls who always have friends over and they don’t lock the door, even at night, unless no one is in the apartment which is dangerous for off campus. Especially since it’s pretty easy to get in the building and to her room without keys or scanning your card like you are supposed to. She locks the door to her room and puts her laptop in a case an is always saying she wished she had a lock.

I cleaned out and old computer tower and and hinged the front so it opens and closes…built a little compartment in there for my laptop and there’s still lots of room for other stuff like money and documents. The way I see it, if someone breaks into your room and plans on stealing something and they see that you have a safe, they’re probably just going to steal your safe. This way, my safe just looks like a computer tower so I doubt anyone would bother with it. But I may not have room to take it anyway so yea…kind of just built it for the rush.

Thanks for your guys input! :] see yeah thats the thing, I dunno where to lock it to. I mean it works if your desk has a whole where all the cords go down so you can wrap it there, but if it doesn’t I dunno where to lock it to. =[
I think I’m just going to buy one with a key so it’ll be easier than getting a combination.
But I also don’t want to get one because its a hastle. XD But it also depends on my roommate if they’re as responsible as I am with locking the door. =[

I’d like to hear some experiences and if you have or haven’t locked your computer was it annoying? Or did you feel fine not having one.

I got a lock freshman year that I’ve basically used since then (I’m a senior now). It’s a four digit combination that I set myself, and it’s hardly a hassle for me to connect/disconnect it. I have it looped around my desk chair.

In the past my roommates have been good about locking the door, so I’ve never really worried that much, but it’s nice to know the lock’s there. This year though our door doesn’t shut all the way unless you pull it a little, and my roommate’s already left it unlocked a few times, so I’m especially glad to have the lock, just in case.

I have mine locked to the bedpost next to my desk. The laptop doesn’t move unless I am going to class with it so it’s really not a pain at all. It makes me feel a little better about leaving it.

I bought one when I bought my laptop. Great to have for whenever I was at work or whatever and wanted to leave it on the desk. I was gonna use it here at college, then I got put in a single. Haha. If my door lock doesn’t stop them, then a cable on my laptop probably won’t either, so i don’t use it here.
