Does anybody have any good recommendations for a laptop for a film major? I need something that can work for film and regular use. I've got a Dell XPS M140 right now, so I don't mind PCs. I'm willing to try a Mac (if just because of Final Cut Pro), but I'm not very familiar with them and would be a little anxious about getting one. Feel free to try and convince me, though.

Any advice would be great. Price doesn't really matter--affordable or expensive--just whatever you think is best!

your film work will (most likely, since i'm not a film major) be done using school computers. so basically, buy whatever you like. if you're a junior or senior and already know that you will be using your computer for whatever you do, look at Asus or Apple. there are probably some other good brands, but those are the two i know have high-quality, high-performance laptops.

definitely macbook pro. i have friends who're studying film and they tell me that macbook was essential in getting things done in that field. but of course, check with your school, too.

I'm going to film school this fall, and they REQUIRE us to have a Macbook Pro, Final Cut Studio 2 software, and Final Draft software. There's a reason for that; Apple has gone places in the film industry that other computer and software companies can't touch. I highly advocate you get a Macbook Pro, if you have the funds.
