What laptop should a film major get?

Hey,

What laptop should a student who starts film school soon should get? I heard the universities recommend the Macbook Pro, but which one... going to apple store they tries to lure me into getting their most expensive models so I don't think they could really be trusted.. What do you think?

Ask the film school.

Get a Windows computer and install Linux on it. OpenShot. Bam. (But don’t remove Windows 7! You’ll need Adobe’s stuff later.)

Essentially, you’ll want:
Intel quad core i7
At least 500gb of storage at 7200rpm (5400 is too slow)
Plenty of RAM, the more the merrier. I’d say 8 minimum, preferably 16, ideally 32.(note: you can buy and install RAM yourself)

A good, high res display.

A high end macbook pro will work well, but there are plenty of Windows machines that will work just as well.

^ I agree with this. When you say film school, any store will steer you to the most powerful models. Get as much RAM, HD and speed as you can afford.
