I kinda have a general question here...what kind of laptops do current students suggest? Also what is the printer situation at Tulane? Do I need to get my own? Thanks

I’ve seen a wide variety of laptops on campus. I myself have a Macbook and love it. I suggest purchasing the laptop of your choice, considering you will be using it often. The B-school recommends not purchasing a Mac because some upper-level classes use certain programs that are only available for the PC; however, if you are tech-savvy or have a friend who can help you, there is a way to segment your hard-drive and install Windows on your Mac. That is what I did, so now I have a Macbook that can run Windows and programs only available for PCs.

As for printers, I can only speak for b-school students. We can print 1,000 pages a semester in the b-school computer labs for free. There are two computer labs in the undergrad b-school, which is right next to Monroe and Sharp. I also know that every student gets a $25 credit for printer-use at Tilton library, which charges 10 cents a page. Having a printer is not necessary.

IMHO, owning an inkjet is rather dumb.
On top of the startup costs (the printer, accessories, etc), inkjets usually cost around 10 cents a page to print, coming from the ink costs. If you own a printer, try and make sure it’s a laser, even a cheap one. Many laser printers can cost 3-4 cents a page, so if you print heavily, you will save a considerable amount of money. Also, you could try inkjet refill stations- Walgreen’s will refill mine for around $5.
