Please please please chances. I promise I'll chance back.

Skipping a grade will have weight because it is a rarity that the avg student jumps, thus, they can give weight to the idea, that you jumped a grade, had to make new friends. Additionally you are attending hs overseas which adds an entire different dimension regarding diversity. Upward trends are good, and that is what you have.

I think you are not off from being matches. What are your safeties.

Duke, Notre Dame, Stanford would seem like safeties with your background and being in the IB program.

Yeah, I didn’t do it cuz I was super smart or something, it was because my mom had health issues that needed family support so we had to move to a new school area where my relatives were so that she could be taken care of, but the new school didn’t have an IB prep program for grade nine so I had to go into ten.

Thanks so much for the reply. It sounds almost too good to be true, just cuz I see all these excellent and great people on CC, but now my confidence has been boosted back up.  My safeties are Fordham and Drexel. Wait, is there something I’m not getting? Because Duke and Stanford and Notre Dame seem way competitive, before I didn’t even think I had a snowball’s chance in hell at getting in…but thanks a lot for the response, I really do appreciate it. :) It’s ten thirty night here, so looking at a reply while slaving off on essays is great.

Are you a NSMF?

Your stats for Notre Dame are competitive since 2260 is high, they like ACTs, but will accept SAT.

Fordham is way too low, and that would be your safety of all safeties.

Because you are a female, you have better chances than if you were a male. Look at the school make-up for sexes, colleges want to get as close to 50-50 as they can.

Duke is private, thus they want to brand themselves internationally, I don’t know your race unless I missed it, and if it is Asian that could hurt because it would be an ORM instead of URM

You didn’t think you had a chance at Duke or Notre Dame, but are applying to UPenn? Upenn beats both of them in competitive selection

NSMF? Um. I’m only commended for national merit.

I’m Asian, so ORM…that hurts a lot, I know. I’m hoping I can bring something different to the usual sea of excellent Asians though. :S

Yeah, Penn is, but I decided to ED for the following reasons:

 1. ED Up. Haha my parents and counselor were recommending that I try for a really reach school for ED so that I have no regrets.
 2. Penn comes to our school every year, and our IB program is fairly new, no one applied their last time but our counselor said that this year there might be one.
 3. I like Penn. Haha, not for its ranking or anything, I just like the atmosphere, the colors, the font, the people. :(:frowning: And if I apply for my dream school and don’t get in…at least I’ll have no regrets.

Thanks for your opinions…I value them very much, specially cuz there’s so many chance threads now that application season has begun in full. I think I’ll apply to Notre Dame cuz I’m Catholic, and I think that would help me fit there. :S

Some more opinions, pleaseeee?
Bumpity bump bump.

…bump…I will chance back quickly…no more opinions…? T_T

NMSF…National Merit Semi-Finalist…in other words when you took your PSAT you were recognized as the top of the top.

Colleges also look at the caliber of the school, this is included in the transcripts, at least for stateside schools. They state how many (%) go to Ivies, 4 yr private, 4 yr IS, 2 yr and no further education. A school that sends a lot to Ivies and top tiers will help, ones that have few hurt, because the caliber is not going to be deemed rigorous.

Yeah, for that, I was only commended…205 PSAT, sucks I know.

Well, our IB program is part of a magnet public school that’s the best in the city, one of the best in the province, and definitely top 50 in the country. But the IB is new, and last year our first graduating class of 26 people had a Brown, Cornell, Wesleyan, Carnegie Mellon, Vanderbilt…this year our class only has 20 people…but the test results for last year’s class were pretty good, we had a 40+ score. :S:S Is that going to help?

How are you miserable?

I apologize if my choice of words offended you…I’ve just been really down lately. A family member has been having health issues, and I had to go and take care of them for a few days, I’m worried about them. And all this right in the midst of college applications, and some people have told me my chances are low, my essays aren’t good, etc etc. Plus my IB predicted scores are being decided, so lots of tests. :(:(

Im sorry i was just suprised how u could feel bad about your grades. I hope your family member gets better and don’t let people bring u down, just work hard and good luck
