Great shot at Stanford, assuming you have good teacher recs and essays.

Sinis, are you applying to Stanford also?

Do you think that the colleges will value regional finalists big time?
where else are you applying?
thanks for chancing me.

Yea I got regional finalist too. I think colleges really respect the extremely hard work it takes to receive such an honor.

I did early for Stanford as well. My regular decision schools include Harvard, Yale, MIT, and Rice.

Hi sinis, can you please post your stats? just curious!

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=386157

Add National Merit Semifinalist and Siemens Regional Finalist to that, since I didn't have those when I first made that thread.

Hi sinis, your stats are grrr...eat! Boy! you are match for evrything.
Now I am thinking if I will survive the SCEA for Stanford. Let's see.
Wish you all the best!!

Update! Update! Update!

The SAT results came out today. My SAT score moved up to 2350.
What else do I need to improve my chances?

That is excellent news. I think you're about set.

Couldn't hurt to try out the Intel STS.

thanks sinis!

Anybody else wants to chance me?

Hi sinis, wanted to ask you a question. Do you think my GPA is hold me back from getting admission in the top ranking schools?
uw 3.8, w-gpa 4.36 with hardest courses

Please comment!!!

It's probably not going to hold you back, but it could be slightly detrimental to your overall glowing application. Being in the top 5% is pretty important though, so hope that you are.

With everything else that you have going for you, I don't think your slightly-less-than-perfect GPA will hurt you much.

You seem to be very positive! the school report form that will be filled out by the GC asks for top 10% of the class which I'm in safely. The form also asks for the highest W-GPA of the class which seems to be a girl with a 4.65.

I also know that another student with almost 4.6 GPA is applying to Stanford from my class. But she doesnt have as strong ECs as I have. My Sc. Olympiad and state Sc award may help out here! Who know? Everything is so subjective, its hard to make a guess. What do you say?

I am positive. Siemens + excellent ECs + amazing athletics (I think, at least. How many is lots of varsity sports?) = very well-rounded and competent student. The ideal Stanford kid (you're even Asian, although affirmative action won't help you).

And its not just that you do everything. You stand out. That's why I think you have an excellent shot at Stanford.

Hi sinis, Have a common app question for you. How did you fit all the "Academic honors" in that space? I am running out of char limit. Pls advise.

Hi sinis, I have 3 varsity sports- cross country, winter track and spring track. so its kind of year round.Thnx for your positive reinforcement.
