Last Minute Dorm Advice

UF dorm move in day is Saturday! Any advice for new students on what favorites you're glad you took with you or a neat item you're planning to bring? Any junk you should have left at home? I thought some of you might have suggestions other than the standard packing lists found online.

I feel like I am taking soooo much stuff. Too many clothes, etc.

Last year, D1 lived in broward. She brought with her those clear plastic drawers that stack (she had about 8 of them) and stored them under her bed. Bring a long cable for your TV cause no telling where you will need to put it in relation to the cable outlet. Ditto for your internet cable...LONG so you can use your laptop in bed. Bring the surge protectors with multiple ports. Bring tools (we used the heavy screwdriver to raise D's bed up a few notches and the hammer to lock it in place). Bring a corded cheap phone for the free phone line in the dorm room. Bring a ton of hangers...D used about 50 in her closet (no kidding). Bring a clip on or desk top fan to supplement the AC. A pop up hamper with a strap for hanging over your shoulder works well for getting your clothes to the laundry room. Bring a mini sewing kit and a mini first aid kit. Fip flops for the shower. Shower caddy that has holes in it (D originally brought this big plastic one from Bed, bath and beyond that she tossed after about 2 months when it got moldy....). Paper towels...come in handy. Dry erase board with attached marker for front door of dorm room. Flashlight,Trash can, mirror, umbrella. At least one nice outfit (D needed it in business school for presentations) and you never know. Oh, and my D also brought a twin aerobed with sheets and an extra pillow (it got a lot of use). Definitely helpful to bring a "truck or dolly" to help carting stuff from car to dorm.

If your room isn't carpeted, I would bring a rug. Makes your room look less cell-like.

Bring a positive attitude. It will be a hot and hectic day. RA's dont take kindly to pushy parents and complaining students.

a STAPLER! Its seems like no one brings one.
-Basic first-aid (bandages/ antibiotic cream)
-Don't bring a phone since that was removed
-usb flash drive (I recommend at least 1GB)

Also get that small stapler that you can put in your bag. In case you have to do an assignment last minute, which you will...

don't forget ehternet cable...and all the other chargers/cables that you need to function.

ahh move in. such a busy and hectic day. Good luck! i'm very excited to go back to UF! :)

Try to remember the little stuff you might need for moving/unpacking, like scissors, tape, and batteries. Wal-Mart and other stores will be crowded!

Thanks for all the help. Hope everyone has a great year and GO GATORS!!!

Good luck everybody. Hope to be joining you guys next year :)

Thanks too.

GO GATORS!

how do you know where the Red lot is? after i unload i have to move the car to the red lot...will it be red lol?

the parking lot will have signs saying either All Red, Red 1 orr Red 3

UbiquityE- what dorm are you in? Your decal, as a freshman is probably Red 3. The lot next to Hume (across from the physics building) is Red 3.

Here is a map where the Red 3 (student's living on campus with less than 50 credit hours) can park:
