So I’m pretty desperate at this point. I would really really really love to go to a US university, and in terms of ACT/SAT scores, I’m pretty decent. My extracurriculars are better than average (several national awards), and I think I’m pretty competitive. The thing is, my math mark is making me less than competitive… I am doing the IB program, and I have been predicted at 6s for everything except for math. Should I send a letter by mail to schools to explain to them my circumstance, or do you think they have already made their decisions for RD? I applied to really really super competitive schools and I just want to explain to them my crappy math mark.
Should I send a letter, or is it already too late/ not worth it?
What exactly would you say that doesn’t sound like an excuse?
@N’s Mom I was planning to say something along the lines of challenging myself and seeing what I could achieve, but in the end, the grad predicted for me is not that great. I’m motivated/ passionate about studying and I even took on 4 HLs for the challenge…
Why draw even more attention to a negative…
Agree with GMTplus7. Do the best you can - get tutoring, go talk to the teacher to get extra help- and move on. You don’t want to be the kid who has so little perspective on life’s challenges that they need to ‘explain’ their lower-than-average math grade.
You are doing HL math, what is to explain LOL? What is your crappy math grade? I read the world average is about 4.5. I would be cautious about explaining a grade that is probably well above many US candidates anyway. Have you got a sat math score? Any AP math? You could sit the BC calc test if you have covered the material anyway, if that is doable in your area?
the world average is 4.5? ok just kidding I’m good. haha i feel like a fool… thanks for the heads up @alfonsia
