i just found out my GPA is 4.1ish on a 5.0 scale and my counselor isn't welling to explain my grades.
I hold one of the highest grades in school :)
but i only have an 85% average (Canadian system)
i have 90% in Chemistry (2nd highest as of now)
80% in Physics (Highest)
85% in a Math course (2-4th highest)
but comparing to other people who applied with 92% and still ranks 80/400
i still look bad (my school doesn't rank)
should i write a letter to the schools i applied to, to tell them about my ranks and grades????

I am not all that familiar with the Canadian system, but I'll offer you what little advice I can. I would say that yes, you should send a letter to any American schools to which you apply, explaining the grading system, your rank, etc. Do not try to justify the things you think might be wrong with your application (unless you have extenuating circumstances) - just let the numbers speak for themselves. It would probably be helpful if a school official could at least sign your letter so colleges know it is valid information.

I hope this helps and good luck!

wow, thanx alot. plz, more opinions required, so far i am leaning 60% to write a letter to 40% not to =)

i am 100% supporting the fact u write the letter. it doesnt hurt, so it doesnt matter

If there is something on your school's web site with an explanation of the system, maybe print it out and attach....so the letter can be very brief and concise and the admissions people won't have so sort through your letter to get an explanation...

thanx a lot, but i was just thinking, if i write a letter saying that i am doing well, but it's not showing up as great grades, would they (adcoms) look at it as an excuse?
has anyone actually done this b4? any advice is helpful, thanx
