<p>I WILL chance back.</p>

<p>White. UW: 3.75, W: 4.5. I'm in the top 10, not sure of exact numbers, but our class size is around 220. </p>

<p>Public High School. NC resident. Low-income family. My sister has CP; I've heard this could be used to my advantage for essays? </p>

<p>ACT score: 26 Comp. [E-28, M-30, R-19, S-26, Essay-8]
SAT: horrible /: </p>

-Local Nursing Home Volunteer [very few hours :/]
-Pink Warrior Night
-Model UN [08]
-I've made shoeboxes for 3yrs now for SP[?] </p>

<p>Awards/Acheivements:
-Honor Roll all years
-Junior Marshal
-Academic Letterman
-Certificates of Honor in Civics & Econ, and Foods 1
-Friendliest Male in 9th grade [should I even bother putting this?] </p>

<p>AP scores thus far:
Calc AB-5 [1 of 2 from my school to score a 5 this year, even on all of the APs we offer] </p>

<p>My attendance record was pretty horrible for my freshman and sophomore years. I've heard this is looked down upon at some schools, but not at others? </p>

<p>So, assuming I have great essays and recs, which of these schools could I get into? </p>

<p>Just get your SAT’s up to 2kish and you’ll probably get into most of those. Your course load is pretty rigorous and you have pretty good extra curriculars. Write amazing essays and you’ll do fine. (: Good luck!</p>

<p>It’s your SAT/ACT… It’s killing you… If you can try again, and do well, that will make a huge difference. If you can’t bring them up I would suggest you look into SAT/ACT optional schools.</p>

<p>Wake in test optional (but from everything I hear, they consider the tests when they consider FA, so you are very likely to be accepted to a totally unaffordable school).</p>

<p>Because UNC is the state flagship university for NC, it’s almost always about the GPA/SAT first then everything else, So your test scores will kill you there. </p>

<p>Davidson, Duke, and Elon draw students from all over. Only Elon has a more holistic acceptance process and they will likely give your application a full review, (so who knows, and Elon is likely to try and find some grant money if they want you… But not likely enough to make it affordable for a low income family) Duke and Davidson are unlikely to read your full application due to your test scores.</p>

<p>NC State and UNCW are possible, and they should want students like you, but no guarantees.</p>

-ncmentor: thanks! Im taking the SAT next Saturday, so hopefully I can get it up quite a bit. Im seriously going to put everything off to the side for the next while and focus on it. Do you have any suggestions as to what I should use for the English sections as prep? My math score isn’t too far off from where I need it to be, but the others are way off.</p>

<p>I agree. work on that sat/act. i suggest you buy an official collegeboard sat book (about $15?). it helps a lot! and, there are 10 practice tests in it! also, their website has a free online test and register for the sat question of the day. if u practice more, your scores will go up guaranteed! i’m in the same situation as you and am currently studying sat for the october test. good luck!</p>

<p>Not a lot extra you can do in a week, so do as luckycharms07 suggested and work on the blue book. Good Luck… and remember to laugh a bit…</p>

<p>Your GPA and in-state residency should work to your advantage but your dont seem to have a lot of ECs, I guess my advice is to really hammer the SATs and definitely go EA/ED, they should help your chances significantly</p>

<p>I am not familiar with every school on your list so I will just chance the one’s I know!</p>

<p>UNC: Reach
Duke: High Reach
Columbia University: High Reach</p>

<p>I think that if you write good essays and raise your SAT/ACT score to at least 2100/33 respectively, then you will be an extremely strong applicant to most of the schools on your list. I would suggest that you retake SAT/ACT sometime between now and the application deadline.</p>
