Late application

Is it possible to get into a good prep school starting now? Is it too late anyway? Have you ever heard of late admissions in good schools?

My advice: call the school and work with them, only they can provide an accurate answer to your question.

There are some schools whose deadlines have not passed. George School, for example, has a Feb 1st deadline, but I bet you could call any school and find out if you can still send something in. They spend alot of time just opening mail and organizing folders before all the reading starts. Worth trying.

Everyone's situation is different and perhaps it is an all or nothing situation in applying to BS for next year.

If you can I would wait until next year. I would think you would want to put your best foot forward so why rush through something as important as this?

Thank you very much for your comments. We can try anyway...

call individual schools to see if they will give you applications -- if they do, you have a chance. the worst is they will put you on a wait list, and if you dont require financial aid, you should have a chance applying past the deadlines in todays climate

which school(s) are/were you thinking about?
it's not impossible... because I've known some people who sent in late apps and still got into BS (not top tier ones like andover and exeter... but pretty good)

Masha- I noticed that you were exploring educational consultants in another thread. If you are serious about attending a prep school this fall, and especially if you are out of the country, then I would say this is a good time to find a qualified and well connected educational consultant. If you are open to more than a list of the top few schools, a consultant can help you find the possibilities.

But I must say I agree with previous poster - this is too important a decision to rush or to limit your options to who might consider you after the deadline. If it can wait a year, it would be a better plan - in my opinion.

Good Luck!

I believe schools with "rolling admissions" will typically accept applications past the usual Jan/Feb deadlines.

Don't how comprehensive or accurate it is, but the SSAT folks maintain a list of Schools Currently Considering Applicants. The new list will come out some time in April here:

SSAT - SCCA List

In the meantime, I think this link provides some of the schools from last year:

Good luck.

Yes. I am already working with an ed consultant. Thanks!

If your consultant does not know deadlines, then get a different consultant.

NMH has extended its application "deadline" to February 23, because the pile of applications to be read was very tall at the old deadline. From what I understand (and never trust rumors) they will keep reading applications while the pile exists. When the pile is zero (which they think will be 2/23) they will close for Regular decision.

They have always consider late applications from strong students.
