So I was just contacted around 4 days ago and I had my interview for Princeton a couple of days ago in a local coffee shop - I'm not a US student, I'm an international. I don't think it was because the interviewer contacted me late - Princeton fired off an email just an hour before my interviewer contacted me, and the interviewer specified that we only had two days to complete the interview.

Based on the thread of late interviews in the Harvard and Yale forums, something like this should mean that you're borderline acceptance (I WISH) or rejection. I think it's safe to say the least that the adcoms want more information about you and considering it's quite late in the cycle, it's also safe to assume they've already read my application thoroughly. Regardless, I'm hoping for the best though...

Is this just a common occurrence, or is this situation rare? Sorry, I've never done much research on US college admissions, and this is all VERY new to me.

I read the yale thread that you’re referring to. I’m interested as well, as I just my princeton interview this weekend on very short notice (less than 24 hours). Would be dope if it meant anything.

If you think your interview was late, I interviewed with Princeton a few days ago, and I am an international student too.

Princeton tries to interview all of its applicants, which also means that a good number of students will get the interview very late (like we did). No, that doesn’t mean that we are a borderline (or whatever the vocabulary may be) student or about your chances in the admission process.

Just flush your mind out of such irregular, anxious and nearly-superstitious doubts. Go and enjoy your life. You are applying to PRINCETON UNIVERSITY- One of the best in the world.

I agree we can’t infer much from Princeton’s late interviews as we may with other colleges, because they explicitly state that (almost) all applicants will be given an interview
